Government of Ghana Policy Alignment in informal settlements in Accra

Background

The Centre for Advanced and Applied Research (CAAR SCHOLARS) successfully supported a major PhD research study from the University of Ghana through extensive data collection on policy alignment in informal settlements within Accra. The research was conducted across four communities - Old Fadama, Agbogbloshie, Shiabu, and Sabon Zongo where a total of 450 survey responses were collected from residents and community members. The study examined how policies related to urban development, climate resilience, sanitation, housing, and social protection align with the realities and needs of people living in informal settlements. Through community engagement and field research, the project generated valuable insights into governance challenges, urban vulnerability, and inclusive policy implementation in rapidly growing urban spaces. The successful completion of the data collection demonstrates CAAR SCHOLARS’ commitment to supporting evidence-based research and contributing to sustainable urban development and policy discourse in Ghana.
