University of Ghana and University of York Field Collaborative Research

Background

The Centre for Advanced and Applied Research (CAAR SCHOLARS) successfully led and coordinated an educational and cultural visit for students and researchers from the University of York to several important tourist and historical sites across Ghana. Led by Barrister Mfah Amadu, the visit combined cultural exchange, historical learning, sustainability education, and research engagement. Participants explored key sites including Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Jamestown, Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle, Aburi Botanical Gardens, and several community and sustainability-focused organizations in Accra and Cape Coast. The initiative provided international participants with firsthand exposure to Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, environmental challenges, community resilience, and ongoing sustainability efforts while strengthening academic collaboration and intercultural understanding between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
